Youtube – “We’re sorry, this video is no longer available”

July 27, 2008 14:46 by Marc in Uncategorized

I’m getting pretty annoyed with the Youtube Error – “We’re sorry, this video is no longer available”- that seems to be popping up more and more regularly these days.

So here are a couple of fixes:

  • Easiest way is to do a CTRL-F5 which will totally refresh the page from the Youtube Server
  • Append one of the following tags onto the end of the URL
    &fmt=6
    &fmt=18
    &fmt=16

So the following URL -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJV_khosQCk would become http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJV_khosQCk&fmt=6
  • If you a SAIX ADSL account add the following proxy server into your settings in Firefox or IE
    dsl-cache.saix.net Port 8080
  • If you got any Firefox plugins like Google Download accelerator set them to bypass youtube.com domain.

Hope this helps :)

Don’t Panic – Alan Knott-Craig

July 18, 2008 11:26 by Marc in Uncategorized

I was browsing around my local Fascination books earlier this week, trying to look for a book to keep me occupied while being beaten down by the “Internet flu” that seems to be doing the rounds.

And then I picked a book called “Don’t Panic” by Alan Knott Craig Jr., the MD if IBurst. Many of you may recall that earlier this year, a blog post of an email that Alan had sent to all the Iburst staff, became an overnight phenomenon. Basically the just of the email was that we should all just take a step back and try not to look at all the negatives that the country is(was) experiencing. Don’t worry about load-shedding, and don’t start packing for Perth.

The email grew into a phenomenon, and started getting loads of replies, and an idea was born into, that a book should be published of all the positives that people see in this country. And so the book “Don’t panic” was published by Penguin books and Iburst. It is a very easy read and at only R50(Discounted to R42.50 at Kalahari), its a bargain. The book basically consists of letters written by ordinary South Africans, right from a 12 year old boy, right up to some well known celebrities and South African dignitaries.

What also is really cool, is at the end of the book, they pose the question: “So what now ?”, and offer links to a couple of websites & blogs that offer “Good South African News”. Included in this list is our very own Local Blogebrity “Nic the Greek” from SARocks.co.za. Nice one Nic !

But I want to share this awesome book. So I had a brainwave, that I’m going to share it with the SA blogosphere. If you are keen and want to read the book, then leave a comment below, and send me your postal address. I will then send the book to you, and as soon as you done with it, you can write a post, and share it with the next person, and post it along to them. And carry on like that and that way everyone can read and be inspired by this fantastic book. Or if you want your own copy order one from Kalahari.net

Yet another new Babe

July 14, 2008 15:54 by Marc in Mac, Personal

You would think by reading the title of this post, I would be announcing yet ANOTHER baby. You can breath a sigh of relief now, that in no certain terms, will number 4 pop out. Ever. (EVER)

But my new love of my life (behind the 3 “real” love of my lifes’), is my bright shiny new Apple Mac. I finally bit the bullet, and got my Mac last week. And WOW. What a pleasure.

It is undoubtedly the most user friendly computer I have ever worked with. Combined with speed and stability, it ranks in my top list, of everything.

I would seriously recommend that if you are looking to buy a new computer, I would put in the few extra bucks and get the mac. Even my wife, who has a general computer phobia, can’t keep her hands off of it.

After going through Allan’s and Henk’s must have app lists, I’m well on my way.

I wonder if it’s true -> “Once you go Mac, you can never go back !!”

Standard Bank Pro20 Interview

July 6, 2008 13:42 by Marc in Uncategorized

This post is WAAAY overdue. Like Waaaay.Apologies

A few months ago I had the opportunity to do some live blogging from a few of the Standard Bank Pro20 games here in Durbs. At one of the first games, I was interviewed live on TV abut the blogging initiative. While my public speaking skills aren’t at my best yet (going to be working on that soon), I think I managed to pull it off OK with only 1 or 2 slip ups :)
