Darren Scott axed from Supersport & Jacaranda FM

With the World Cup only 3 days away it looks as if Supersports studio team will be a man short.

Word on the street is that Darren Scott has been axed from BOTH Supersport & Jacaranda after a racial slur over the weekend. According to Channel24, he swore at colleague and made racist remarks at the Mabula lodge in Bela-Bela on Friday evening during a team building event

According the Jacaranda site, he handed in his “resignation” earlier today from his very popular morning show, which sounds like it has completely changed the stations audience. – http://www.jacarandafm.com/kagiso/content/en/jacaranda/jacaranda-lifes-greatest-hits?oid=1357983&sn=Detail&pid=756865

And according the Supersport site, Scott was “relieved” of his presenting duties, indefintely, after the incident – http://www.supersport.com/press-releases/news/110907/Statement_on_Darren_Scott

Interesting times ahead. My money. It won’t be long before we hear Darren’s voice on 2OceansVibe Radio.
(edit: I been asked by some of the readers to clarify what I mean in the above statement. Not that I have to, but thought I would anyway. My statement simply states that a lot of the “greats” of South African Radio are moving to online radio. Given that 2OV radio is one of the first online radio stations in the country, and has already snapped up some big names in SA Radio, I insinuated that Darren would be a good addition to the already fantastic line-up. In retrospect and given what he said, I suppose it may not be THE best decision, but if you look past at what happened and what great personality & presenter he really is, he would most probably be a great addition to the team. Pure speculation. Case closed)

Care to elaborate on that last comment there?

  2. Marcel

LOL, 2Oceansvibe radio, where old white DJs and comedians go to let their careers die.

  3. Hardus

A person can do things right for 40 years of your life, but boy make one mistake and everybody climbs on the band wagon. To all the perfect people out there – cheers !

  5. thea neuhoff

HI THERE. I THINK YOU LOT HIGH UP AT JACARANDA ARE VERY WEAK. DARREN DID NOT MAKE RACIST REMARKS ON THE RADIO. THIS HAPPENED WHILE HE WAS DRUNK AND REALY ANNOYED BECAUSE THE GUY WHO OWED HIM MONEY REFUSED TO LEAVE HIM ALONE. ONE MISTAKE AND HE MUST GO, IF THE SHOE WAS ON THE OTHER FOOT AND THE OTHER GUY HAD CALLED HIM SOME AWEFUL WHITE WORD HE WOULD STILL BE AT HIS DESK. HOW IS HIS FAMILY SUPPOSED TO LIVE WITH BOTH YOU AND SUPERSPORT AXING HIM. IT WAS NOBLE OF HIM TO APOLOGISE AND RESIGN BUT MAKE HIM COME BACK. YOU ARE GOING TO LOOSE A LOT OF LISTENERS, INCLUDING ME. WHAT A BUNCH OF WEAK ……… YOU ALL ARE. THEA NEUHOFF

Dear Marcel mentioning above old retiring WHITE dj’s
You sound more like the type of guy listening to Uhmlobo in hope
to hear something worth listening to and happen to hear about
a legend from radio and tv making a mistake. Then you dare judge him
after you yourself made a racial implied remark. I feel sorry for idiots like you
    bud Marcel.

  7. Rudy Terreblanche

Racists have no place in die nuwe Suid Afrika. Goodbye Mr Scott and good luck trying to get employed

  8. ben barnard

    Hi All,

I’m from Durban and was so used to listening to East Coast, that when i one morning tunned into Jacaranda and heard Darren’s voice i was over the moon. He had the most amaizing voice ever. Now…. Jacaranda… Jaca who. I dont listen to you guys anymore. Bring back Darren, it’s that simple. As Marcel stated “old WHITE dj’s”, dont throw stones when you live in a glass house boet, idiots like you should rather tune into the “classic” station and listen to the sounds of the chello’s, violens, harps etc. Get a life dude.

    Darren still rocks………..

  10. Renaté Luther

    Hi all

I’m from Benoni and I listen to Jacarandafm.
What was Darren thinking when he made that remark? He jeopardised his career. That was a
    very stupid move Darren made.
I still miss Darren on Jacarandafm.
I hope Marc has a speedy recovery. Nobody wants their child to get sick at all.

Hy Darren u ar the best jacaranda eva had, each m0rning wen i listened,en heard ur voice then iknew my day wud b great.bt eva since u g0ne am nt listening 2 breakfast show anym0re.

  12. Lennit

I’ve been out of Jacaranda territory for a while, so when I tuned in this morning and there was no Darren I started to Google.
This is pathetic. I dont care what he said or to whom he said it.
@ Rudy Terreblanche: You statement is only half true…there is no place for WHITE RACISTS in the nuwe Suid Afrika.
Let people speak their mind and release their tension. Otherwise it build up and the consequence of that is usually much greater.
As was pointed out by “thea neuhoff”, this was off the air…so it should be settled off the air and left off the air.
Tell me: Has Jacaranda stopped reporting on Mulema? Is his voice off the air?

Darren Scott, if you were to read this, which I doubt, I wish you the best and I hope you come through and show them. You’ve overcome greater obstacles in the past.
