How to buy Ripple Coin (XRP) in South Africa

There has been a lot of talk recently around coin which has seen massive growth over the last couple of weeks. At the time of posting it is sitting around $2.57. It has been sitting around $0.20 for the last couple of months!

So what is Ripple? Best summed up answer I have found is from Wikipedia:

Ripple is a real-time gross settlement system (RTGS), currency exchange and remittance network by Ripple. Also called the Ripple Transaction Protocol (RTXP) or Ripple protocol, it is built upon a distributed open source Internet protocol, consensus ledger and native cryptocurrency called XRP (ripples). Released in 2012, Ripple purports to enable “secure, instantly and nearly free global financial transactions of any size with no chargebacks.” It supports tokens representing fiat currency, cryptocurrency, commodity or any other unit of value such as frequent flier miles or mobile minutes. At its core, Ripple is based around a shared, public database or ledger, which uses a consensus process that allows for payments, exchanges and remittance in a distributed process.

Essentially could become the way of the future for Banks to exchange and settle funds instantly. There are already banks talking to Ripple Network around the world, so I don’t think it will be long!

Yesterday I had a friend ask me how could he get on the Ripple train and .

There are a couple of options including from local exchanges (but this does come at a premium) or you can buy through a platform like Changelly

BUT, my preferred method is to buy through the . (I am really loving Binance at the moment if you haven’t noticed)
The exchange volume is increasing, and there are loads of people buying and selling, and the pricing is in line with all the other exchanges.

To get started you need to buy Bitcoin or Ethereum on Luno and then transfer it to your Wallet. I prefer sending Ethereum as it is a lot cheaper and much faster to send.

Once you have your BTC or ETH in your Binance Wallet you can then use the XRP/BTC or XRP/ETH exchange to get your Ripple.

If you do buy Ripple, I would suggest just Hodling it and keeping it for a cash out in the future, I suspect it’s going to go big (NB. This is not financial advice)

  • How to Install the Binance iOS app on your iPhone

[Edit 11 Jan 2018] – After numerous reports that the Binance app is no longer working on iOS, it looks like they have finally re-published it to the iOS app store. You can download it from here

So after I wrote my post the other day on How To Buy Altcoins In South Africa, I chatted to one of my friends who asked if had an app. And the answer to that is a resounding YES!! In fact they have an awesome app that allows you to view the exchange and trade as well! You can download the app from the iOS app store ->

Installing the app is a little bit tricky, as it is not available on the iOS app store for anyone to download. You have to download it from the Binance App site, and then give it the correct permissions to run on your device.

I put together a quick little demo on how to do this on your iPhone

    1. Visit https://www.binance.com/ios-install.html to download the app or snap the QR code below if you on a PC
    2. You will see the Binance App on your phone.
    3. Once you click it to open it, it may give you an error, which is quite simple to get around
    4. Go to Settings -> General -> Device Management
    5. You will see an entry under there titled “Hunan Shituo Technology Development Co LTDor “Shenzhen Posun Industry Co., LTD”
    6. Click on this and then click “Trust Hunan Shituo Technology Development Co LTD” or “Shenzhen Posun Industry Co., LTD”
You will see under this there is an icon for the Binance app that says Verified. This means Apple has verified the app to run on Apple devices.
    7. One you have done this, you can open the Binance app and login in with your credentials.

Using the Binance App, you can view your portfolio & trade using any of the coins on the exchange. You can also view graphs and set time stops on the graphs

All in all a very simple app, but makes trading on Binance so much easier!

  • How to buy Altcoins like Ethereum, Litecoin & IOTA in South Africa using Binance

How to buy Altcoins like Ethereum, Litecoin & IOTA in South Africa using Binance

I’ve had a lot of people asking me recently about Buying Altcoins in South Africa. Altcoins are the “alternative crypto currencies” other than the popular Bitcoin. These include coins like , , , and thousands of others. According to CoinMarketCap, a website that tracks all Crytpo Currencies, there are over 1355 coins available to purchase and trade.

So, I have used a couple of exchanges over the last year to buy and I have been using the for quite a while now. Currently they have around 85 different Crypto Currencies available for purchase on the exchange. This doesn’t seem like a lot given there are around 1355, but I can assure you these are the coins that matter.

The fee structure is pretty unique in that you can pay for fees using the Binance coin , and it allows you 50% off your fees. This is really handy if you looking to save a bit of cash especially on the smaller trades.

One side note. To buy these coins on Binance you need Bitcoin or Ethereum. In South Africa, you need to purchase your Ethereum Or and then transfer it to Binance. The issue comes in when you trying to transfer smaller amounts as the Network Fees on Bitcoin are quite high at the moment. So my suggestion is to buy Ethereum on Luno and then transfer to your Binance wallet and purchase there. The Ethereum Fees are a lot lower and also the transfer is a lot quicker.

They are also listing new Coins all the time, and also have some really cool competitions on. They recently gave away a C-Class Mercedes Benz!!!

So if you looking for a decent, stable exchange to buy Crytpo Currencies, then I would highly recommend !

  • Mindgame Escape Umhlanga Review

    Mindgame Escape Umhlanga Review

Last week Saturday we were invited by the the team from Mindgame Escape in Umhlanga to join them for the opportunity to try and “escape” from one of their escape rooms. Escape Rooms is a physical adventure where you have to solve puzzles, and clues in order to work your way out of the room, usually within a pre-determined time limit.

This has to honestly be one of the most fun afternoons out that I have had in a REALLY long time. Being a parent we often are restricted to just doing what the kids want to do. So when I asked a few of our friends if they were keen for something different, everyone jumped at the opportunity.

When we arrived, we were met by Monique, who took us through a quick 2 minute video on what Mindgame Escape is all about. We had decided to do the Sherlock Holmes Baker Street mystery, where we needed to find out who the “murderer” was.

Essentially, you are locked in a room with an hour to escape using a whole bunch of clues, riddles & locks. Without giving too much away, the thought that went into some of the clues was amazing. We don’t often think to look in the simple places for the most obvious things, and that’s really how your mind should work at Mindgame Escape. You are also allowed to call for hints at anytime, which will help with solving the clues.

We finally made it out at 56:29, so literally with a few minutes to spare. Apparently only around 35% of people make it out. The record for that specific room was broken on the same day at 46 minutes!!

All of our friends that were with us, really enjoyed the experience. We literally couldn’t stop talking about it, and what we could have done differently.

The pricing of Mindgame Escape varies from R250pp (for 2 people) to R200pp (for 6 people) and is well well worth it. You can also book your slot online at https://www.mindgame.co.za/ and also check out more info about the rooms and about the whole concept. Once again, this is a highly recommended if you feel like doing something different and giving your brain a bit of a workout!

Disclaimer: Mindgame Escape invited us to join them to try out one of their escape rooms. I was not asked to blog or talk about it, but it was honestly so amazing, I can’t stop. I know we’ll all definitely be back for the Houdini room very, very soon!

  • How to buy WAVES Platform Coin in South Africa

How to buy WAVES Platform Coin in South Africa

I’ve been looking at the WAVES Platform for a while now. In a nutshell, WAVES is a decentralised platform where you can create your own crypto token, and it has it’s own decentralised exchange (WAVES Dex) launching VERY soon! This means you can have your own cryptocurrency and have an exchange to let people trade it on! It is also currently ranked 22nd on Coinmarketcap. They also seem to have quite a lot of stuff in the pipeline in the next couple of months

    How does WAVES work ?

    Wave-Platform-Working

You can use & store WAVES in a number of different ways.

There are also a number of exchnages which allow you to purchase WAVES, and trade with it. My suggestion is to look at Bittrex. You can easily buy Bitcoin on Luno, and then transfer it to your Bittrex account ,which then allows you to trade and purchase WAVES. There is talk of the guys at the will also be adding sometime in the near future EDIT: have recently added as a coin to purchase. Great news!! And the volumes are also great!!

You can also use a number of other instant buy & sell options to buy WAVES

Changelly allows you to purchase using your VISA or Mastercard directly on the platform. You will need a WAVES address which you can get from one of the wallets above

You can also buy WAVES directly on https://waveswallet.io/ or thorough Shapeshift.io. I prefer using Changelly though as the exchange rates are much better.

Another way is to buy WAVES directly on the decentralised Exchange – https://wavesplatform.com/get-waves

WAVES is often compared to ETH but I still think it has a long way to go, but it has loads of potential. Keep your eyes on WAVES
