  • Cutting Jade – Go Your Own Way

For those of you who know me, know that I am a huge Cutting Jade groupie roadie fan :) I have known the guys for about the last 13 years, and when I stayed in GP, I used to go out with them to loads of gigs. They had a huge smash hit with 10 Seconds a couple of years ago, and have since made a couple more albums, which unfortunately due to some play list selectors opting to ignore the hits :(

The boys have just released a new single, which is a remake of the Fleetwood Mac hit, “Go your own way“. The song was produced by the acclaimed South African producer, KevinLeicher, and has a distinctive Cutting Jade feel to it, and Andrew’s, the lead singer, voice really pulls through in the song.

Below is a press release from Authentic Idea’s about the new release:

An exceptional version of the Fleetwood Mac smash hit – Go Your Own Way is being distributed to radio stations across the country today as Cutting Jade releases the embargo on their latest recorded single.

Kevin Leicher – SAMA nominated producer and top SA live musician (Arno Carstens, Chris Chameleon, Josie Fields, and Louise Carver) lent his genius to the recreation of this worldwide radio single.

Go Your Own Way – Cutting Jade style – is an intoxicating sing-a-long party rock song with all the hallmarks of a new future hit. Play it loud, play it everywhere. Send it to your friends. Let Go Your Own Way be your anthem for this summer season!

Cutting Jade is renowned for their spirited power driven performances, amazing rock ballads and stadium sized rock anthems. This five piece Pretoria powerhouse is one of the longest standing rock bands in SA; which like a good wine, just keeps on improving and impressing.

Catch Cutting Jade this summer around SA performing Go Your Own Way and all their other favourite songs.

All in all I really like the new song, and hope that it will get the airplay it deserves.Let us know what you think in the comments below.

  • Umhlanga Lighthouse gets a condom for World Aids Day

    LH1

A couple of weeks ago the guys from “The Unlimited“, the same people who were behind Winston the Pigeon, came up with a competition where you could guess how they would be transforming a lighthouse from around the world into something on the 1st of December.

This morning they did the deed, so to speak, and covered the Umhlanga lighthouse in Durbs, with a “condom” to signify and celebrate world Aids day.Well done to The Unlimited for this fantastic initiative, and highlighting a huge problem we are faced with every day.

I took a quick swing past there on my way to work this morning, and took a quick pic or 2. Apologies for the distance and quality, was in a bit of a rush.

  • Meteor video from Limpopo Province – 21/11/09

I know the last couple of posts have been meteor orientated, but I am totally blown away by the footage I have seen.

Christo van Graan, who stays in Burgersfort in the Limpopo Province, sent me this video clip from one of his security camera’s of the meteor that appeared over South Africa on Saturday evening, 21 November 2009

    From Christo:

“Marc, this is a security cam recording of Saturday 21/11/09 from  S 24 40.793  E 030 19.763. My cam is facing East. Situated at my house in Burgersfort on the border of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Meteor was moving from east to North.”

    WOW, absolutely amazing.

  • Video of meteor over Gauteng 21 November

Yesterday I did a post about the Meteor that was spotted over Gauteng on the 21st of November.

The comments have been flying in thick and fast, and it seems that loads of people saw this phenomenon. By the sounds of things, the meteor may have landed or disintegrated somewhere over or near the Botswana/South Africa border.

Today I came across this video I found on Youtube taken from a CCTV camera located on the Mustek building in Midrand (Link to Google Map). I am totally totally awed by what I have just seen.

The video of the Gauteng Meteor from the Mustek building can be seen here:

I have also just come across a 2nd video of the Gauteng meteor from a building somewhere in Johannesburg. This one is really cool as you get a full view of the horizon, and it is also slowed down.

    Wow…that’s all I can say !!!

UPDATED: I have posted 2 VIDEOS of from Johannesburg of the meteor. Check out the post here -> https://www.marcforrest.com/2009/11/24/video-of-meteor-over-gauteng-21-november/

Update: Christo Van Graan also sent me a video taken from his Security camera’s in the Limpopo Province -> https://www.marcforrest.com/2009/11/25/meteor-video-from-limpopo-province-211109/

On Saturday evening, 21 November,  my wife and I were driving home on the N2 near Ballito,  from my year-end function, at about 22:30. suddenly the whole sky lit up to a greenish/blueish colour. Soon after that there was flash that flew over our heads. It kinda looked like a lightning blot, but there weren’t any clouds in the sky.

I immediately jumped onto twitter, and found that we weren’t the only ones to see this. It sounded like it was a lot brighter in over Johannesburg & Centurion, with a couple of people even saying they may have thought it had reached the ground as well. After checking around, it looked like what we saw was a rather rare occurrence, in that a we saw a meteor in the sky that was close to earth. I have never seen anything like this, and it was phenomenal.

After doing a bit more investigation, in the morning, it sound like it didn’t actually hit the ground, as meteors generally burn up as they hit the earths atmosphere. It also looks like it could be part the Leonid shower which is meteoroid dust from the tail of Halley’s Comet! Although, that may not be 100% correct, as this was scheduled to happen on the 17th of November.

The Weather Service has a blog post about it here, where a couple of people have commented about this. The Times also has an article on with comment from the guys at the Johannesburg planetarium. So far, it doesn’t seem anyone has pictures of this rare occurrence, but hopefully we can get lucky, and get a similar picture to that of a Utah surveillance camera that picked up a meteor shower in Utah last week. Wikipedia also has a very interesting read about Meteor Showers

Did you see the Meteor on Saturday night ? If you did leave a comment, if anyone has pictures let me know, and I will gladly put them up :)
