  • Google Earth launches 3D buildings in South Africa

The team from Google Earth have slowly started rolling out 3D buildings to South African cities ahead of the World Cup. So far they have rolled out to Pretoria, Bloemfontein & Port Elizabeth, as well as the Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town.

3D Buildings are really cool, as they give you a whole different perspective on the city that you are looking at in Google Earth. Pretoria seems to be the most up to date, and I’m pretty sure that in the next couple of months we will start seeing a couple more important updates from Google, including the much anticipated Google Streetview

Here are a couple of the 3D Buildings in Google Earth from around the country:(click images for full size)

  • Moses Mabhida Virtual Pano

Last year I went on a tour of the Moses Mabhida stadium here in Durbs, before they were finished. One of the pics I managed to take was a Pano of the stadium. It is an awesome picture which shows an almost 360 degree view of the stadium.

I have now been fortunate enough to get a sneak peek of the new software from the guys at Virtual Africa, that allows you to build a Virtual Panoramic tour of any pano picture taken. So you take your normal Pano shot, plug it into their software and then it allows you to have a Virtual tour of the shot. To see what I mean, check out the virtual tour of my Moses Mabhida Pano. You can zoom in to the image & scroll in all directions.

Very very cool. A big big thanks to Tinus from Virtual Africa for allowing me to try this out. Keep your eyes out for their service which will be launching soon soon :)

  • Nigerian Soccer team to make Ballito their home base during 2010 Soccer World Cup

Word on the street in my small, but bustling hometown of Ballito, on the KZN north coast, is that we will be hosting the Nigerian Football team during the 2010 FIFA world cup. The Super Eagles, ranked 2nd in Africa and 15th in the world, have selected Ballito as their home town for the duration of the world cup. All of the Nigerian players in the national squad are based overseas, with the top players playing for teams like Chelsea and Everton in the UK.

The team have 1 match in Durban, against Korea Republic, while the other 2 will be played in Joburg and Bloemfontein (both less than an hour by plane)

The team has secured the rights to use the Ashton International College fields, which will be upgraded at the cost of a couple of million, to include floodlighting and a full on FIFA regulated pitch. The team will apparently staying at the new Hampshire Hotel in Ballito, which has recently been completed.

As we get closer to the World cup, I’m really excited by the prospects it has to over, even to our small, bustling little town :)

  • Die Antwoord – Enter The Ninja lyrics

If you haven’t heard about Die Antwoord yet, where have you been ? They were featured on BoingBoing a couple of days ago, and seem to be taking the interwebs by storm !
Check out YouTube for their videos or visit the http://www.dieantwoord.com

Here are the Lyrics to their featured song “Enter the Ninja” (from LyricWiki)

    [Hook]
    I, I, I
    I am your butterfly
    I need your protection
    Need my samurai
    I, I, I
    I am your butterfly
    I need your protection
    Need your protection

    I’m a ninja, yo
My life is like a videogame
I maintain when I’m in the zone
One player one life on the mic
    I’m in the dark

    Yo, ninja, go

No fuckin around I’m cutting down
    Anyone in my path
Tryna fuck up my game with razor sharp
    Lyrical throw stars
    Killin’ my flow

    Hos! Ska!

    Wild, outta control

    Ninja skop befokte rof taal
    Rough rhymes, tough times
    Met fokkol kos, skraal
Till I hit triple seven at the ATM
    Straight famine or feast,
When you’re living on the razor edge
    Stay sharp, sharp
    Rolling with the $O$
    High energy
    Never seen zef so fresh
    Uh, when we mic check
    Hi-def flow’s best

    Motherfucking the best
    We not like the rest
    My style is UFO
    Totally unknown
You can’t fuck with my new Zef flow
    I’m hard to miss
“You can’t do this, you can’t do that”
    Yo, fuckin’ who said so?
    I do what I like
Too hot to handle, too cold to hold
You can’t fuck with the chosen one
    I-I-I want the knife
    I’m a Ninja

    Hook x2

    Ninja is poes cool
But don’t fuck with my game
    Boy or I’ll poes you
    Life is tough
    When I get stuck
    When my time is up
    I push through
    Till I break-break-break
on through to the other side
Fantastically poor with faces like a stalker

    Ninja is hardcore
Been cut so deep, feel no pain
    Its not sore
    Don’t ask for kak or
You’ll get what you ask for
I’m like a wild animal in the corner
Waiting for the break of dawn
Trying to get through the night
Just a man with the will to survive
    My blade swing freely
Decapitate a hater with amazing ease
This is not a game, boy
    Don’t play with me
I work my light sabre like a wild fucking savage
    from the dark side danger
    Yin to the yang
    Totally Hi-Tek Ninjas
    Motherfucking big in Japan
I seen the future, but I never got nothing in my hand
Except a microphone, big dreams and a plan
    Fly-talking, sky-walking
    Like a ninja

    Hook x2

    Fuck, this is like
The coolest song I ever heard in my whole life
Fuck all of you who said I wouldn’t make it
Who said I was a loser
    Said I was a no-one
Said I was a fuckin’ psycho
    But look at me now:
    All up on the interweb
    World-wide, 2009. futurista
    Enter the ninja
    Yolandi Visser
    DJ Hi-Tek
    Die fokken Antwoord

    I, I, I (I’m a ninja)
    I am your butterfly
    I need your protection

    I, I, I (yo I’m a ninja)
    I am your butterfly
    I need your protection
    Need your protection

    I, I, I (I’m a ninja)
    I am your butterfly
    I need your protection
    Need my samurai
    I, I, I (a motherfuckin’ ninja)
    I am your butterfly
    I need your protection

  • Standard Bank Pro20 2010

photoThe time has come for us to live and breath the excitment that is Pro20 cricket. The 2010 Pro20 season kicks off today (Wednesday) here in Durbs, and I’m sure this year is going to be a CRACKER of note. The finals are on Friday the 12th of March, so within a month, we will have the whole series wrapped. To check out the full list of fixtures, click here to download a PDF copy of the fixtures

Standard Bank have chose a Rockstar theme for this year, so I’m pretty sure we will see those luverly dancers back in action, as well as the cricket of course. Last year I blogged most of the games in Durbs, and I will be back in action this year, assisted by Justin McCall who will also be covering some of the Durbs games.

I am really looking forward to it, and will post a couple of the pictures of the games I attend this season.
