    iPhoneography 2014 is a wrap!

10706631_1511037629141111_633160183_nI know, this post is long long overdue, but to be honest, I still find myself reminiscing back a month ago to this years iPhoneography exhibitions and thinking how I could (eventually) write this post and showcase some of the highlights.

Simply, I can’t. This years exhibitions far exceeded anyones expectations. The Joburg event kicked off on the 1st October at the iStore in Sandton Drive. The layout and format changed this year with the exhibition still being hosted in the upstairs gallery area, while the basement was converted in an amazing underground stage area, where Michael Lowman strutted some tunes and the awards ceremony took place. We also had some of the Mother Trucker food trucks pull in for some really good food! We had over 1200 people through the doors on the evening, a HUGE response!

The actual images in the exhibition were fantastic, and we exhibited around 200 images, including the new “really interesting” selfie category. The overall winner for the Joburg exhibition was Lindsay-Anne Hughues, with her image called “Found”.

10724584_853068468051110_15062819_nA few days later we hit Cape Town. Well to say this was by far our best exhibition yet, in the 4 years we have been doing this, would be an understatement. Cape Town came out and supported in a big way.  We also had around 200 images on display at the really cool Woodstock exchange, and the very talented Beatenberg entertaining us. We had around 1700 people joining us on the night!! Unbelievable !

So all in all, the 2014 iPhoneography Exhibitions were a HUGE success. The iStore team went full out this year, and I have to thank them for the massive success of the events. I can’t believe that almost 5 years ago, I went with a small little idea, and it’s grown into this.

Keep your eyes peeled for 2015 iPhoneography news, and some exciting new developments :)

  • Add Hope during World Hunger Month with KFC

Add Hope during World Hunger Month with KFC

I often have the privilege of travelling out to some of our rural communities in KZN to assist with a feeding scheme we are involved in. I have also been following this campaign from the guys at KFC called “Add Hope“, which brings food to those who can’t afford it.

By simply adding R2 to your next KFC meal, you too can “Add Hope” to someone’s life. When you see hope through the eyes of a child, you see the world in a different way, because children always believe that tomorrow will be better. They know that one day they will be doctors, astronauts or police officers.

This video of Mikael shows us that there is hope out there. Mikael aspires to be just like superstars Ronaldo & Messi, and wants to be a star soccer player when he grows up.

Food security is one of the basic needs on Maslows hierarchy of needs, yet, in South Africa 3,3 million children go to bed hungry every night. You may have no problem providing for this physiological need on a daily basis, but 3,165 million children in South Africa live with household hunger. Malnutrition is associated with more than half of all childhood deaths and the startling stats extend beyond this.

Having raised over R210 million over the last 6 years, KFC Add Hope currently feeds over 70 000 children every month, through 90 carefully selected national and community beneficiaries.

Help a child make their dreams come true during World Hunger Month and Add Hope.

  • iPhoneography 2014 is a go. Entries now open!!

iPhoneography 2014 is a go. Entries now open!!

It’s been a few months since we wrapped up the iPhoneography 2013 exhibitions in Cape Town and Joburg. The response we had in 2013, was way beyond everyone’s expectations, and, well, to be honest, blown away by the response to both the entries and exhibitions.

If I have to be honest, because of the enormity of the 2013 exhibition, my stress levels were way to high, and I even had doubts whether 2014 was actually a good idea. But, thanks to some rubber-arm twisting, and the fantastic team at iStore, 2014 is a go again this year. YAY!

The guys at iStore have put together an incredible plan for this years exhibition, and I honestly can’t wait to be a part of this. This is the 4th year we will be hosting the exhibitions and I can tell this year is going to blow your mind away!!!

Entries have officially opened, and ANYONE can enter. So, if you have ever taken a photo on your iPhone, you can enter. Simple as that. My “mantra” behind the exhibitions has always been to open it to everyone. It’s not about being professional, or being the best, it’s just awesome to see the variety out there. This year we have an all new Judges panel with a wide range of interests.

So, entries are open until the 1st August on http://www.iPhoneographySA.co.za and you can enter up to 5 images taken on an iPhone. Once again, iStore have offered up some pretty rad prizes, like a MacBook Air for the winner, and iPad Minis for the category winners. Check out the Entry Guidelines for all the info

Exhibitions will once again be held in Joburg & Cape Town (Sorry Durbs :( ) and the official dates of the exhibitions will be released soon!

I can’t wait to see how iPhoneography 2014 is going to pan out. I do know though, that it is going to be AMAZING! Stay tuned for updates :)
