  • The Edison Project by Karma from Henry Ate

A Thursday evening.1998. 2nd year out of school. A dodgy pub somewhere in Hatfield Pretoria. Tassies on the table. Suddenly a voice starts singing. Just. It’s Karma. And it just goes downhill from there.

There were loads of these back in the day. Henry Ate had a “cult like” following back in the day. We used to go to all her gigs in and around Pretoria, and seemingly never got tired of her voice.
Henry Ate have been pretty quiet over the last couple of years, after a stint in Los Angeles trying to break the lucrative US market.
But from what it sounds like Karma hit a luck after meeting a chap called Kevin in a bar called the Edison in downtown LA, and soon “The Edison Project was born”

Kevin and Karma met in a bar – the Edison in downtown Los Angeles. Karma told Kevin she had a dream – he liked what she had to say. Kevin called his buddy Jeff and told him about Karma’s dream. Jeff liked what Kevin had to say. They all met at Kevin’s house to jam. Adam showed up one evening at band practice, drum kit in tow (it’s not exactly clear how Adam got word of the dream but the band seems happy that he did). Two weeks later EDISON PROJECT (sometimes Get Jeff Laid, sometimes Myles The Dog, sometimes Midas Day) were in the studio recording their debut album with Francis Buckley. The End. – From their Facebook Page

Take a listen to Guess Again on their FB page. This morning it their debut Album was released on the iTunes Music Store. After listening to a couple of the songs already, I have to admit I’m pretty impressed, and brings back loads of memories with that distinctive Karma voice. Nice one :)

  • A gift from the new Nandos CEO

A gift from the new Nandos CEO

You may have seen the new Nandos ad that is being currently flighted on TV. If you haven’t take a look..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkRnZWc5xsE

Love the way they poke fun at the CellC guys, and the little copyright logo at the end is brilliant. For interest sakes, the chaps at CellC loved this ad & humour so much, they sent the Nando’s exec a gift containing their superfast 60GB internet package. Cool hey. If you think about it, every single time this ad is played and spoken about, CellC WILL be mentioned…So they getting absolutely FREE brand exposure :) Clever not to shout about it.

This morning I received a little package from the Nandos crew, and had a dial a number to hear a message from the new Chicken Excellence Officer (CEO). Also got a nifty little Chilli USB drive.

Thanks Nandos. Actually, just made myself lis for a Makulu boss meal for supper tonight :)

DSTV Mobile have launched the product by supporting the Nokia 5330, ZTE F900 & the Nokia N96. By using the Drifta device you can also watch selected DSTV channels on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch by downloading the DSTV Decoder app (iTunes Link) or your Windows computer. The Drifta device costs R599 and you can get it at your Mulitchoice office or buy online from Kalahari.net.

I popped past Multichoice during lunch today to pick up a Drifta and see how it works. The lady behind the counter had a quite giggle, cause I was the first person to ask about it. I got back to the office and tried it out. Much to my disappointment, it didn’t pick up any channels and gave me an “Orange Signal light” which means it can’t pick up any channels. I have also double checked the coverage map, and it says I definitely have coverage in the area that I am in.

I will give it another try later by going outdoors as well as trying at home a bit later. The lady at Multichoice also confirmed that they offer a 7 day money back guarantee.

I will do a another post soon about my “Drifta journey”, and hopefully get it up and running soon :)
