  • Interview on Taking the Gap Podcast

I got a mail the other day from the guys at Maude Street Podcasts who produce a whole whack of different podcasts aimed at the financial sector. They invited me to be part of the latest episode of the “Taking The Gap” podcast, to talk about iPad for Business.

Talking isn’t my strong point, so I bit the bullet and chatted to Simon Brown who hosts the show. After listening to the show, I am very pleased the way it turned out, and the podcast is a great reseouce to anyone in business.

To take a listen listen below and visit the Maude Street site to hear more of these great podcasts

Thanks to the guys for the opportunity to share with you :)

  • The 2nd SA iPhoneography exhibition happening in October

You may recall last year myself and the team from the Core Group, put together the hugely successful 1st ever South African iPhoneography exhibition up in Joburg. The event went off without a hitch, and we got some awesome feedback from everyone who entered as well as visited the exhibition.

So when the team from the Core Group called me to ask me if I would be keen in help putting the exhibition together again this year, I immediately jumped at the opportunity.  So after a few meetings over the last couple of weeks we have got the ball rolling, and are very very exicited that 2nd South African iPhoneography exhibition will be happening in October !

The most exciting news is that this year, we have also included Cape Town as a exhibition venue, which, after going through last years feedback was a must to include. What this means is that Joburg entrants will see their artwork in Joburg & Cape town entrants will see theirs at the Cape Town exhibition.

We have confirmed the following dates & venues for this years events.

    Johannesburg
    iStore 1 Sandton Drive
    Opening 11 October
Exhibition stays up for 2 weeks

    Cape Town
V&A Waterfront – Exhibition Space in Mall
    Opening 25 October
Exhibition stays till the 29th October

We are currentley working on the finer details and will soon start asking you to submit entries. We have gone through all the cons from last years exhibition, and have streamlined the process a bit more. One of the major changes for this year will be, we are looking at 1 dedicated printer to bring all the printing to the same quality & standard, as well as ensuring the pieces are delivered in time before we need to hang.

So, get those iPhones out, and start snapping away ! Remember, this exhibition is for EVERYONE. You don’t have to be a professional to enter :)
If you have any suggestions or ideas, drop a comment below. If you would like to drop me a mail about the exhibtion, please do so at [email protected]

  • Win 2 tickets to Manchester United vs Amazulu in Durban – 18 July 2012

Win 2 tickets to Manchester United vs Amazulu in Durban – 18 July 2012

I got an exciting email the other day from the team at DHL offering me 2 tickets to give away on my site to the exciting Manchester United versus Amazulu game, which is happening next week Wednesday at Moses Mabhida Stadium. I immediately replied, and said I would love to give these away, knowing the type of atmosphere and game it will be. There is no doubt that Manchester United is one of the world’s leading sporting teams. They are the best supported club in the world with over 659 million supporters worldwide and over 173 million in Africa, and have won more than 50 major titles.

The whole Manchester United squad is visiting South Africa on a training tour and will be playing games in Cape Town & Durban only. DHL, as the official logistics partner to Manchester United, is giving away 2 tickets to 1 lucky reader on my blog to the Manchester United Pre-Season Tour. In addition they will also win 2 sets of Manchester United merchandise including a t-shirt, cap, scarf, lanyard, keyring and drawsting bag.

Manchester United team who are visiting Durban & Cape Town on the DHL Tour 2012, warm up at Old Trafford. Fabio, Rafael and Johnny Evans

To win this awesome hamper, all you need to do is leave a comment on the post below saying why you should go, or simply post the following on Twitter “I just entered to win 2 tickets & hamper to the Man Utd vs Amazulu game on @MarcForrest’s blog – http://bit.ly/DHLManUtd  #DHLManUtd”  Don’t forget the Hashtag ! Seriously. It is THAT easy :)

The competition closes on Monday 18 July 8am and winners will need to be based in Durban to collect their tickets & hamper. Winners will be chosen by random.org for each comment or tweet entered. Good luck, and keep an eye out next week for the winners. It’s going to be a CRACKER of a game.

  • Enter Forrest Media…An exciting new chapter

So, if you follow me on Twitter & Facebook you would have seen some rather exciting & interesting news earlier today :)

Due to rather unfortunate circumstances, I was part of a small group of people a Private Property, who received notice last week of potential retrenchments. Today was the day to tie up all the loose ends, and was also my last day at Private Property. I have only been there close on a year, but all I can say for the company is good things. They are a dynamic, forward thinking company, and have to admit that I am rather bleak to be leaving them.

    BUT.

That said, I have an exciting opportunity ahead of me. For years I have been toying with the idea of going out on my own, and doing something. I have always had this “entrepreneurial flair”, and today I got the “kick” I needed :)

So, enter Forrest Media. A Full Service Digital Marketing Agency focusing on the KZN market. The initial focus will be on Digital, Social & Mobile, but in a very broad spectrum. A little bit of everything !

While there are a couple of well established Digital Agencies in Durban & Surrounding areas, I honestly feel that I will have something extra to offer having been in the internet industry for close on 15 years. I am passionate about technology, and the net in general, so I honestly feel that this is the next logical step.

I am really excited about the future, and hope to partner up with guys I have worked with in the past on some cool projects. I am open to new ideas opportunities all the time, so if you ever down this way, would be awesome to grab a coffee and chat !

Here’s to new opportunities, and exciting times ahead. Lets go !!

  • A day out at the rugga with BMW South Africa

I was super stoked last week when I got an invite from the guys at BMW South Africa to join them for a day at the Springbok vs England game last week at Kings Park. BMW are an official SARU sponsor, so that meant the full VIP Treatment. After meeting up at the Elangeni Hotel on the beachfront we made our way over to the stadium in a coach, where we were met by Guy Kilfoil, General Manager for Group Communications & Public Affairs at BMW South Africa.

We were treated with 5 star hospitality in the hospitality tent, which included an awesome lunch as well ! Just before the match we made our way over to the stadium, at which time it started bucketing down…Thankfully, by the time the game kicked off, it stopped raining, and we were entertained by the Boks & England to a very entertaining game. The weather amazingly held out for the whole game, and the atmosphere at the stadium was awesome !

A HUGE thanks to the guys from BMW South Africa for the fantastic day, I honestly had a blast !! Hoping the Boks keep up their winning ways, and crush the English again this weekend !
