The Sett – Agile Workspace in Durban

I first heard about The Sett a couple of months ago over a coffee with 2 great chaps, Don Muller & Trav Gale who work for a cool company called Appletree Catalyst Agency. Both these guys have been amazing influences in my life over the last couple of years, so I knew this was going to be an awesome spot.

  • Nandos puts it’s Best Foot Forward on Flip Flop Friday

Living on the East Coast seriously has it’s advantages. Like, being able to walk into a meeting in baggies, a T-Shirt & of course flip flops. Straight off the beach. No lies.

In fact, I would go so far as to say KZN could easily be the Flip Flop capital of SA. Everyone wears them. So, the guys at East Coast Radio came up with a pretty cool initiave called Flip Flop Friday to celebrate the start of summer in KZN. The idea is to break a world record of over 20,000 people to wear Flip Flops to work (or anywhere) today.

So, as usual the clever marketing people at Nandos have jumped on the board, and have come up in full support by adding another awesome reason to their current 25th Birthday campaign called #25Reasons, highlighting why they love South Africa, by including #17, “We put our best foot forward” Check out the Nando’s board on Pinterest detailing the #25reasons they love SA http://pinterest.com/nandosoriginal/25reasons/

Very cool ! And clever. You can also share your top reasons why you love South Africa, by creating a board on Pinterest, by giving 25 reasons why you love South Africa. The most shared reasons will get made into an online video and Nando’s vouchers will be given away randomly to #25reasons tweets / boards. Simply create a Pinterest board titled #25Reasons, re-pin your favourite reasons from our board, or create your own.

Tweet your board using the #25Reasons hashtag or submit it to the Nandos Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/NandosOriginal

If you’re not on Pinterest, simply tweet your reason using the #25Reasons hashtag. Entries close 15th October 2012. Make sure you also check out the latest Nandos ad for this campaign -> http://youtu.be/wqfAuGPFBWo

  • Gadgets & Gizmos in the Airport Magazine

The guys & girls from Fabmags here in KZN, have recently launched an awesome new magazine called “The Airport Mag“. The FREE monthly magazine is distrubuted at King Shaka Airport, and focuses on lifestyle and local news from around the country. They also have a section on “best places” to visit in various cities around the country.

The mag is designed to be a quick read while you on the plane, but also something you take home, to read again. I really enjoyed the layout of the magazine, and there are some awesome articles as well. In the next couple of months the magazine, should start being distributed at OR Tambo and then Cape Town airport. Monthly distribution is currently around 20,000

I have been asked by the team to contribute to the Gadgets & Gizmos section of the mag, where I review a couple of interesting gadgets every month, and give more info about them. The info is pretty brief, but includes a larger image to get an idea of what it’s all about.

In the first edition, I featured the iPad2, DSTV Drifta, The Nintendo 3DS & the XBox Kinect. You can download a copy of the section in PDF, by clicking on the image below.

If you have any suggestions of Gadgets or Gizmos you would like me to review or if you would like your product reviewed, leave a comment below

  • See how moral you are with the Moral Experiment

    [twitter style=”vertical” float=”right”]

About 2 weeks ago, I came across a site called the Moral Experiment, run by John Bushell, who is based here in Durbs.  The Moral Experiment is exactly what it says. It’s an experiment to see how moral we as humans really are. The Moral Experiment is a totally new & revolutionary concept on the internet & is designed to harness the power of your online social network. The site was also featured on Mashable this morning !

The objective of the Moral Experiment could best be described in the following scenario: If you came into some money that was not meant for you, what would you do with it? Would you keep it all, or would you give it to a worthy cause? Or possibly both? The Moral Experiment is designed to try and understand our choice. Do demographics (religion, race, age, sex, education, etc) influence our decisions? To get a better idea of how the Moral Experiment works ->

    • Jane joins the Moral Experiment, and pays subscription fee of £1. You can also chose a 6 month or 12 month subscription. Payment is done through PayPal
    • Jane then encourages her friends to also join the Experiment by giving them a unique URL to sign up with.
    • When Jane’s friends join the Moral Experiment, she will keep her friend’s subscription fee.
    • Jane then decides what she will do with this cash. Keep it? Give it to charity? Or both? Within two friend referrals to the Moral Experiment Jane as made her original £1 back and is now in profit.

Jane’s choice is totally anonymous, only she knows what she has chosen to do with her ‘Moral Earnings’. Her general demographics (religion, race, age, sex, education, etc) are fed into the Moral Experiments results, and this data is presented as group data that can be viewed on the web site. Are younger people more charitable than older people? Are women more giving then men? The Moral Experiment is designed to be insightful, fun, and possibly even controversial.

You can also watch this video to get a better idea of how the Moral Experiment works. I signed up the other day, and I am really impressed with the interface and how the experiment is layed out. I’m def gonna be keeping my eye on this one to see how it all pans out, as well as to see how moral people really are.

It only costs £1 and there is no obligation to continue. If you keen to give it a bash, you can sign up here
