Yesterday saw the first ever game at the new Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban. Having been through the stadium on a tour a couple of months ago, I had to make sure I was there to see this spectecal. And that it was.
I have never been to a live soccer game before, so was really looking forward to this one. The atmosphere was unbeliveable, and the crowd was fantastic. There is something special about South Africans, and we really value and show our pride in everything we do. Everything, from the Vuvuzelas to the “Dance offs” in the crowd, the crowd really made the day for me.
Walking into the stadium your are left in awe, as the finished product is out of this world. An opening ceremony with dancers and gymnasts kicked things off, before the game got underway. The game itself was great, with loads of action including a red card.
Generally everything ran smoothly, there were no queues to get into the stadium, there was loads of visible security, and aside from only having one concession window open, because they lost the keys to the other ones (!?!?!), everything went off without a hitch.
I am really looking forward to seeing a couple more games at the stadium before the World Cup next year. With everything in life, practice makes perfect, and by June next year, Durban should have it down to a fine art :)
