    Business Day iPad app

The guys from the Business Day newspaper released their free iPad app (iTunes Link) earlier today with an “unofficial” announcement by the Editor Peter Bruce on Twitter earlier today.

I quickly headed over to iTunes to download it & give it a bash and am very pleasantly surprised. After the team from the Daily Maverick announced last week that they would soon be launching a subscription based “app”, called iMaverick in August,  the Business day responded by saying they would also be launching an iPad app (soon), and they have really upped the game with this FREE app. You get full replicated content from the site & print publications with options to share, comment and read the latest stories on the fly.The navigation of the stores is simple, with stores being broken up into their relevant categories. My only bug bear is that it shows an advert everytime you exit and re-open the app.

    From the app store:

BusinessDay is South Africa’s most influential and respected business news and analysis source, offering incisive coverage of business, politics, labour and other current affairs, written by the country’s award winning journalists.
Leading the only business daily newspaper in South Africa for over 25 years, BusinessDay has been optimized for the iPad.

If you own an iPad I highly suggest you get this app. By far one of THE best dailys I have seen on the iPad. Looks like South Africa is finally starting to understand the “Apple iPad Revolution” ;)

Well done Business Day team !

What are your 5 “must-have” apps in your iPhone camera bag?

    Instagram, Camera+, 360Panorama, PhotoForge2, Viddy

How many camera apps do you have on your iPhone?

I have 3 or 4 on my phone right now, of which I use Camera+ and Instagram most often. I tend to take pics with the standard iPhone camera app and then import them into the 3rd party app for editing afterwards. This way I don’t have to fuss too much while trying to compose something, and it also lets me use multiple apps on a pic if needed.

How did you get into iPhoneography?

I’ve been a hobbyist photographer using DSLR gear for several years now. The brilliant apps available on the iPhone allowed this to be a natural extension. The best camera is the one you have on you, and we always have our phones on us, so may as well be prepare for the unplanned

What’s your favorite subject to shoot on iPhone?

Looking at the pics I’ve taken I’d have to say probably not people, with the possible exception of my little girl. Subjects are usually abstract and urban and often snapped hastily while sitting in traffic. They’re all on-the-go and seldom planned.

  • An exciting new adventure

If you follow me on Twitter & FB, you would have seen my exciting news earlier today where I “announced” that from the 15th of July I will officially be joining the Private Property team, here in Durbs, in the role of Mobile Product Manager. This is an amazing opportunity, and I honestly can’t wait to get started on it. Essentially my job will be to conceptualize & “design” mobile apps, across all platforms, as well as manage mobile web apps & everything associated with it. As you can see that will be just up my alley given my passion for mobile technology (especially “iDevice”) as seen on this blog.

I leave Derivco after an awesome 3 years there, where I learnt so much. Derivco is a fantastic place to work, and it was an honour to join some of the best minds in both the online gaming industry & South Africa. I made some great friends & connections there, and I am sure I will miss the 12 o’clock lunchtime queues.

Strangely enough, the position at Private Property came totally out of the blue, and I even more peculiarly I got referred to them by a friend who reads my blog. If I can give one piece of advice, keep your Linkedin profile updated !! Yip, I didn’t have to submit a CV. Thanks to this site, Linkedin, Facebook & Twitter, I got this job :)

And I can’t wait to be there on the 15th ;)

  • Wes Blackmore iPhoneography Showcase

    Wes Blackmore iPhoneography Showcase

Now that the excitement of the announcements of the WWDC keynote address on Monday have died down, I wanted to share a few more iPhoneography showcases that have been sent to me.

Today Wes Blackmore, who has been around for years in the South African “Blogosphere” from the good old Chumpstyle days, shows off some of his awesome iPhone photography taken in and Cape Town. Some great shots here !

What are your 5 “must-have” apps in your iPhone camera bag?

I have a good number of photography apps but I only ever find myself using Camera+ for shooting, Dynamic Light & PicFX for processing and Instagram for sharing. Although I’m always trying out new ones I find or hear about.

How many camera apps do you have on your iPhone?

    One folder full, 12.

How did you get into iPhoneography?

I was using Instagram as a Twitter Image service mainly, but it was only until I started following the top popular Instagram users and started using their tips and tricks that I really got into it. It has definitely been a learning experience though. If you have a look at my Instagram feed backwards (http://inkstagram.com/#/users/709757/photos) it’s actually about a man who takes grainy photos of his mustache and bulldog. His little best friend is then taken by tickbite fever and he’s then forced to do other things during walk times, ultimately pushed into a personal discovery to find a new passion. ADAPPTION! ()

What’s your favorite subject to shoot iPhone?

Sunsets and sea views or any subject blanketed by clouds for that matter, clouds seem to come out looking amazing using iPhone HDR tools.

  • Setup iTunes wireless syncing & see purchased songs

With the release of iOS5 & iCloud earlier today by Apple, a new feature called Automatic Downloads was introduced & it seems that the iTunes syncing & ability to download purchased songs is now available. This means that if you previously downloaded a song, app or book on your iPhone, it will now be available on the iPad & vice versa.

(Big thanks to @yash0505 who pointed this out to me.Thanks :) )

To get this set up follow these steps:

    • On your iPhone or iPad go to Settings -> Store
    • You will see a new menu, called Automatic Downloads appears which allows you to turn on what you want to sync
    • Then go into your iTunes app, and you will see a new tab called “Purchased” appears. Here you will see all your previous music that you have bought.
    • You can re-download this music to your device.
    • If you buy any new music, on either device, it will automatically sync to the other
    • Same goes for apps, and you will now see a purchased tab under the update menu on either device.

This is a huge step up, as previously you could not download your purchased music to another device. Thanks Apple :)
