  • izimvo.com

izimvo_biggerA couple of weeks ago, my mate & colleague Shaun Trennery came to me and said he had a brain wave about a new project. He wanted to put together a site that allowed us to interview regular South African’s like you and me, about our lives in South Africa, and what makes us happy and sad about living here. Throw in a few general fun questions, and boom, izimvo.com was born.

We launched the site this morning with a from Mike Stopforth about his views of living in South Africa, and how much he loves the Spur. Anybody wanting to have a lunch meeting with Mike, Spur is your answer :)

Shaun and I have been working on building up a list of potential people to interview, and are aiming high in trying to punch out a post every day or so for the next week or 2. We want to take a look at regular South Africans, from the Construction worker at the new stadium, to the CEO of a top 40 JSE company.

Keep your eyes on izimvo.com, I promise you, there are going to be a couple of interesting questions being fired off in the next couple of weeks…

  • 090909 Geeks Day Delight

Yesterday was I think the ultimate Geeks day (well for me anyways :)

    • I eventually upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard. WOW, what an improvement. 2 minor hiccups, in that Checkpoint SecureClient did not work in Snow Leopard, but that was easily fixed, thanks to these fantastic step by step instructions. I also had an issue with Switch Res X, which I am still fiddling with, but not the end of the world
    • I upgraded to iTunes 9, which has had a face lift. My favorite feature allows me to organise my apps on my phone from within iTunes
    • I upgraded my iPhone firmware to OS 3.1, which also seems a whole lot faster. As someone pointed out, may just be a placebo effect after seeing how much faster Snow Leopard runs, but it definitely does feel a lot faster
    • Tweetdeck also graced us with an upgrade. Much cleaner interface, and I wouldnt be lying when I say it also feels that much faster :)
    • Winston my Pigeon Booi, from DC, won his race against the ADSL upload. The win was monumental in pigeon terms, and Winston has gone on to break all sorts of other records, by appearing on loads of various websites, and also made an appearance on Sky News !!! Well done to @imsmith and the guys from The Unlimited. Fantastic campaign !!! And to think it all got going at the last 27 Dinner in Durbs :)
    • Finally, and definitely not least. I now have a full complement of tractors on my farm in Farmville. Now THATS geeky :)

  • ADT Security – USELESS SERVICE

    <rant>

I don’t often rant on my blog, but today I’m going to be used to expose the MOST useless company in South Africa. I’m actually just fed up with them and the service they offer. I am cross posting this from a complaint I made on Hellopeter.com

Since we moved into our new house in December, we have had endless problems with ADT. With monthly call outs to repair our system, equiment breaking and alarms going off at random times of the day and night. We have had the technical team out here, at least 7 or 8 times to try and ‘sort’ out these various issues.

Last month, we received a notice under our door, to say that the NEXT day they would be pulling out their patrol vehicles in the Ballito area, and sub contracting to a local company, who would send out a patrol vehicle in case of an emergency. Today, this was put to the test.

We had a family day outing today, and on our way home we recived a call to say the alarm had gone off. By the time we got home, there was still no one here.
When I started investigating times, I found out once again how useless ADT really was.
Alarm signal recieved at ADT control room: 11:44
Call made to me to tell alarm had gone off: 11:50 (6 minutes)
Call made to sub contracting company in Ballito Afres: 12:03 (13 minutes !!!!!)
Sub contractor patrol arrived at premises: 12:06

Thank you ADT for being the offering the most useless service in the whole of South Africa. FED UP !!!!!!!

If you are looking for a Security company in South Africa, I would really like to recommend that you NEVER EVER  consider ADT Security.

  • Geometric Theme from Woothemes

Last week Adii & his boys from WooThemes.com released their newest theme called Geometric.
Adii ran a mini TweetCompo that the first 3 people that re-tweeted his tweet of the new release, would get a free copy of the theme.
Luckily I saw this just in time, and tried my luck. And to my surprise I was number 3.
Thanks Adii & the chaps from woothemes, hopefully I should be able to put it to good use soon :)
