Win 2 tickets to Manchester United vs Amazulu in Durban – 18 July 2012

I got an exciting email the other day from the team at DHL offering me 2 tickets to give away on my site to the exciting Manchester United versus Amazulu game, which is happening next week Wednesday at Moses Mabhida Stadium. I immediately replied, and said I would love to give these away, knowing the type of atmosphere and game it will be. There is no doubt that Manchester United is one of the world’s leading sporting teams. They are the best supported club in the world with over 659 million supporters worldwide and over 173 million in Africa, and have won more than 50 major titles.

The whole Manchester United squad is visiting South Africa on a training tour and will be playing games in Cape Town & Durban only. DHL, as the official logistics partner to Manchester United, is giving away 2 tickets to 1 lucky reader on my blog to the Manchester United Pre-Season Tour. In addition they will also win 2 sets of Manchester United merchandise including a t-shirt, cap, scarf, lanyard, keyring and drawsting bag.

Manchester United team who are visiting Durban & Cape Town on the DHL Tour 2012, warm up at Old Trafford. Fabio, Rafael and Johnny Evans

To win this awesome hamper, all you need to do is leave a comment on the post below saying why you should go, or simply post the following on Twitter “I just entered to win 2 tickets & hamper to the Man Utd vs Amazulu game on @MarcForrest’s blog – http://bit.ly/DHLManUtd  #DHLManUtd”  Don’t forget the Hashtag ! Seriously. It is THAT easy :)

The competition closes on Monday 18 July 8am and winners will need to be based in Durban to collect their tickets & hamper. Winners will be chosen by random.org for each comment or tweet entered. Good luck, and keep an eye out next week for the winners. It’s going to be a CRACKER of a game.

    TOMTOM 1005 WORLD
    www.tomtom.com
    R4000

I was recently fortunate enough to review 3 exciting new products from the guys at Dion Wired, and being a GPS fanatic, was really excited to open the latest TomTom offering, the 1005 World Edition.

The TomTom 1005 World comes in at a fairly reasonable R4000 from Dion Wired, and is well worth it for the over 60 country maps that are included on the device. This included most of Europe, USA, Australia & Southern Africa. The fully capacitive 13cm touch screen, makes browsing on the device an absolute pleasure.

The GPS also includes a years worth of TomTom live services, which means you can find any locations via Local Search with Google, Tripadvisor, Expedia and loads more. You can also even tweet your ETA of your destination !

The HD Traffic updates are another feature I really enjoyed, which meant I had real-time access to traffic incidents in the area. The GPS also comes with an Easy Click Magnetic Mount which makes docking and undocking your device a breeze.

If you looking for an all round feature rich GPS device, I would highly recommend paying the few extra Rands for the 1005 World Edition.

    R4500

The PowerShot SX40 HS is a versatile compact 12. Megapixel point-and-shoot camera that easily captures amazing photos and videos. The advanced Canon technology delivers stunning image quality with reduced noise and blur, while the colours are more vibrant and white balance is true-to-life. The 35x Optical Zoom offers incredible reach and range, allowing you to shoot any scene, near or far.

The Powershot comes ready to use out the box, and offers full 1080p HD Movie record as well. This camera is a must if you are looking for a easy, simple to use camera without all the technicalities of a DSLR camera.

    Acer Ultrabook RSE 02.033
    www.acer.com
    R11000

It seems the trend at the moment in the laptop market is, the thinner & lighter your laptop is, the more expensive it gets. That said, the price tag associated with the new Acer Ultrabook RSE 02.033 is indicative of its sheer power & brilliance.

The laptop boots up in record time, and sports a Intel Core i5 processor, with 4GB of Ram standard, and a versatile 250GB hard drive, while only weighing in at a measly 1.3kg’s.

Microsoft Windows 7 is included as a default operating system as well. The machine does however lack a LAN port and a CD Rom drive, but both of these seem to be disappearing as we move into a wireless world. 2 SD Card reader, HDMI Port & 2 USB ports however makes up for these missing elements. The extra long battery life of 15 hours ensures you will never be left stranded without power.

If you in the market for a laptop that is portable, versatile & super quick, I would highly recommend looking at the range of Acer Ultrabooks.

  • Enter Forrest Media…An exciting new chapter

So, if you follow me on Twitter & Facebook you would have seen some rather exciting & interesting news earlier today :)

Due to rather unfortunate circumstances, I was part of a small group of people a Private Property, who received notice last week of potential retrenchments. Today was the day to tie up all the loose ends, and was also my last day at Private Property. I have only been there close on a year, but all I can say for the company is good things. They are a dynamic, forward thinking company, and have to admit that I am rather bleak to be leaving them.

    BUT.

That said, I have an exciting opportunity ahead of me. For years I have been toying with the idea of going out on my own, and doing something. I have always had this “entrepreneurial flair”, and today I got the “kick” I needed :)

So, enter Forrest Media. A Full Service Digital Marketing Agency focusing on the KZN market. The initial focus will be on Digital, Social & Mobile, but in a very broad spectrum. A little bit of everything !

While there are a couple of well established Digital Agencies in Durban & Surrounding areas, I honestly feel that I will have something extra to offer having been in the internet industry for close on 15 years. I am passionate about technology, and the net in general, so I honestly feel that this is the next logical step.

I am really excited about the future, and hope to partner up with guys I have worked with in the past on some cool projects. I am open to new ideas opportunities all the time, so if you ever down this way, would be awesome to grab a coffee and chat !

Here’s to new opportunities, and exciting times ahead. Lets go !!

  • Parrot Minikit Plus Review

I recentley got the opportunity to review the awesome little Parrot Minikit Plus Bluetooth Handsfree kit.

This little gadget is a must-have if you are looking for a handsfree kit for the car. It has loads of extra cool little features, which for it’s price is well worth it. The ability to sync 2 phones to it shows how versatile it is, and uses 2 different ringtones to differentiate between the 2 connected phones.

The Parrot Minikit Plus also has the ability to sync your phones address book to the device, which makes calling a breeze using the built in voice recognition system. You can also use the dial on the device to skim through your contacts. The one thing I found to be super handy is that it has a built in vibration sensor, which picks up when you get in the car, and turns on automatically. The device also uses low energy battery technology, so charging is kept to a minimum !

The Parrot Minikit Plus is available from most electronic stores & online stores and retails for around R899, although I see Takealot.com has it at the moment for R749 which is a bargain !
