  • iTunesUSA/iEverything gets a little makeover

The guys over at iTunesUSA/iEverything, which I told you about a while back, recently relaunched their brand new store.

The site offers instant delivery of iTunes vouchers to your email address, which you can redeem in the US iTunes store. The best thing about the site, for me, is it is offers an Instant EFT option, through PayFast, which allows you to log into your internet banking (no matter what bank), and instantly transfer your cash across to get your voucher delivered to you. You can also buy Ukash vouchers at any Pick ‘n Pay and can use those on the site as well.

I have been chatting to the guys at iEverything for a while now, and they really love what they do. Often I get queries about their service through my site, and I can forward it to them anytime of the day, and they sort the issue out ASAP. Their service is superb. The biggest gripe I have heard about the site is that they always seemed to be out of stock, but after having a coffee with one of the owners the other day, they seem to have sorted this out with a new supplier & should have stock more often.

If you looking for iTunes vouchers, give them a try. I can honestly vouch for them.

P.S. I was NOT asked or payed to write this. The links to the site are however affiliate links, which help contribute to site costs

  • iPhoneographySA exhibition a SUCCESS !

I know this is a couple of days late, but I have been trying to come off of the high of the 1st ever iPhoneography exhibition that was held on Thursday evening at the iStore in Sandton.

After 5 months of planning, emailing, choosing photos, getting images, hanging & sweating, it all culminated in an awesome event. From all the comments we had, both on the night and after, everyone only had good things to say. We had around 200-250 people come through the exhibition on the night, and have had requests to do another event, possibly in Cape Town. All I can say, is that it “should” happen, but probably only in a while. There were a lot of lessons learnt, and loads of planning for this one, so if we end up doing another one, it can only be better. If anyone has suggestions, complaints or compliments, I would love to hear them in the comments below.

The event trended on Twitter during the course of the evening as well ! We also got some awesome coverage in The Sunday Times Lifestyle section & iMaverick. Also check out Jeanette Verster’s blog post & Matthew Arnold’s post for some pics on the eve.

Shaun Lavagna also put this cool walk through video together of the whole exhibition.

I am also busy putting together an iPhoneography blogwww.iPhoneographySA.com where I will focus just on iPhoneography apps, events & profiles. Stay tuned :)

  • Road Closures Sandton 1 Sept 2011

If I wasn’t such a loyal and patriotic fan of the Springboks, I would have been more upset that I am already, but luckily, luckily, I’ll (try to) forgive them this time round. Well, that and today I found out that it’s not as bad as I expected.

You see, for the last 6 months, I been been planning the iPhoneography exhibition at the Sandton iStore, and yesterday I found out that the Springboks are having a little going away party, for the World Cup, on the SAME night as the exhibition !! With road closures around the whole Sandton area, I started panicking a little.

So, if you are attending the iPhoneography Exhibition on Thursday eve, please make sure you give yourself a bit of extra time to get there, as there will more than likely be congested traffic. If you coming from Rivonia Road side, try and avoid it, by coming around and approaching from Rosebank side. Or alternatively coming from William Nicol side. The iStore itself isn’t too affected as it is on the complete opposite side of Nelson Mandela Square, where the Springbok do is. Another alternative is to to perhaps use the Gautrain, bearing in mind that the last train from Sandton leaves at around 20:30. Check the timetables here

On a side note, today I looked at the map again, and realised that someone had been very lazy, and confused the heck out of people.

At first glance you would think that all the yellow roads were closed off. But look again. Only West street is closed. You see they have 2 black lines at the end of West Street, and only the 2 thin black lines on the other side of west street. Given that the standard colour for showing a major road on a map is yellow, these guys decided to just use Microsoft paint and draw in 2 lines, and colour in the other side of the road red. Silly people !

It’s only 3 more sleeps, and I’m really really excited. And nervous. A bit :) See you there

  • iPhoneography Exhibition update

I have been rather quiet here about the exhibition, mostly because I have been hectically busy trying to organise the whole thing. I think I have learnt that organising an exhibition is no mean feat. And the most important lesson is that exhibition is spelt with 3 i’s and not 2. Thank goodness for spell check :)

So, everything is pretty much ready to go for Thursday eve, all that is left to do is to hang the pieces which we will be doing on Wed & Thur with a gallery curator, who luckily knows a lot more about this than me. There will be around 200 images on exhibit & of those about 60 or so are instagrams. A lot of the people exhibiting have blowing their images up to canvas size, and are really impressed with the way they have turned out. If you would still like to attend, make sure you either RSVP using the RSVP form or on the Facebook event page. If you not attending, don’t stress, I will be taking a cool video of the evening and putting together a “highlights package”

A couple of people have written about the event their sites, including 2 of the top iPhoneography blogs:

Looking forward to seeing you there.

  • Check out my awesome instagram canvas

Remember a while back I told you about Printwild. Well, I decided to get myself an A2 canvas of a collection of mine and the wifes instagram pics we have taken over the last couple of months. I saw Dean on Twitter did this a while ago, and I was really keen to do something similar.

We picked it up on Friday and am really stoked with the results ! Check…

A few people have asked me how I did it, so here is a quick rundown. Can’t promise it will work, but I played around quite a bit to get it to look the way I want

    • Download all your images from instagram using Copygram. An awesome awesome tool that allows you to download every single instagram pic you have ever taken.
    • Once I had chosen which images I wanted, I opened them in Adobe Bridge which comes with Photoshop. In there, I sorted the photos in the order I wanted, and then exported it to a PDF. I worked out the size of the canvas, and then how many images I could get across & down. As you can see above, using the standard 612×612 instagram resolution, I managed to get 80 images on the A2 canvas
    • Once I had the PDF, I opened it in Photoshop, made slight changes here and there, and then exported to JPG
    • Uploading to Printwild was seriously a breeze. It took less than 5 mins, and I had my canvas printed in my hands within 4 days. Very cool
I am hoping to take this up with me to the iPhoneography exhibition, so you can have a look see there if you are attending (Don’t forget to RSVP if you are )
